An Appointment Filled With Architectural Art

During my MRI appointment, I encountered this interesting piece that hung from the ceiling. To me it represents life and how even though it consist of many layers it all comes together with art!

"When the Roots Take Hold"

For this first project I was somewhat inspired with the quote shown at the top of my blog; "From the concrete who knew that a flower would grow", because it is something that I can relate to. For instance, I've lived in the hood all my life, where people I've known since I was young have now either dropped out of school, have gotten pregnant, started selling drugs on the corner, are dead, or are in jail. As a product of this environment I can definitely say I'm not one those statistics and I'm in turn making a new lane of opportunities for myself and others who might one day follow. In some sense you can say that I'm a flower who grew from the concrete. In this photo-gram I used two object one of which is a draw cord from a hooded sweatshirt and the other a plastic flower. I chose to use a draw cord because it is a part of an article of clothing that is usually worn in my neighborhood so I guess it represents my hood. The flower on the other hand, is supposed represent me or anyone else who happens to be in a similar position. Some people have said that it looks like the draw cord has engulfed the flower leaving nothing to spare. On the other hand, others have said that it looks as if the flower has escaped into mid air leaving the draw cord tangled and confused. Both responses were very interesting, but I will leave the interpretation up to you.
